In my previous blog, I referred to this as the Old Fort - it's the RED FORT. Shahjahan, the fifth of the Great Mughals, transferred the capital back from Agra (where the Taj Mahal is) to Delhi. If I read the history correctly, this was completed in 1648 and it was designed as a 'city within a city'. There were administrative areas and private areas. Personally, I love the carved screens of marble called JALI. These are only a few of the ornate carvings we enjoyed.
